VERSATILE WATER LANCE
Penetrating-fogging nozzles have been around for years but the WaterLance
differs from most in that it has eight interchangeable components. The wands and
tips are made for rapid interchange so that it is practical to use the Tip for
tasks such as roof penetration followed a few seconds later by connection of a
Wand for immediate fire attack. The nozzle is easily stored in almost any layup
or pre-loaded on a 1 1/2" attack line for rapid deployment
The biggest advantage to using penetrating nozzles is that you can launch a fire
attack from the exterior of a structure thereby keeping firefighters in a safer
environment.
King County (Washington) Fire District 40 has been using the WaterLance for 18
months and, according to Chief Paul Witt, they are pleased with the results they
have seen. "It's not something you use in every situation but when used at
the right time, it is an effective tool," stated Chief Witt.
Some of the typical applications for the WaterLance include attic fires,
through-the-wall penetrations of RVs and mobile homes, and through-the-floor
attack of basement or crawlspace fires.
Volunteer firefighter Ed Smith spent three years designing and perfecting the
WaterLance. He worked in manufacturing for nearly 30 years and has designed
products for a variety of industries, including power companies and the
military.
