Our first opportunity to use the WaterLanceä xwas an engine compartment fire that was put out using the piercing tip while lifting one corner of the hood. The damage was limited to the engine compartment, and forcing the hood open was not necessary. We also used the WaterLanceä xpiercing tip and 90-degree fog tip on a house fire that started out defensive but needed better penetration to reach some hot spots deep inside the structure where it was unsafe for our firefighters to enter. During this operation, we also found that the WaterLanceä xwas easier to handle when used in conjunction with the pistol grip bale.Of all of the alarms we have used the WaterLanceä x on, one stands out as the true test for the 90-degree fog tip. We were dispatched to a roof fire that turned out to be an attic fire. The fire had been smoldering for more than 24 hours. The Battalion Chief ordered the 90-degree fog tip to be used on the roof as soon as he was on the scene and saw the fire was still contained in the attic. The WaterLanceä x was set up and the crew went to the roof of the one story house. The crew used an existing attic/roof vent hole the fire was coming out of, and steamed the fire with the nozzle. The fire extinguished so completely that no other water was used. We were able to contain the fire to the attic and virtually all contents were saved. Due to the quick thinking of the Battalion Chief and the effectiveness of the WaterLanceä x, the homeowners still have their belongings and are able to rebuild the house.Having the WaterLanceä x in our "tool box" has certainly improved our ability to get the job done faster and safer with less damage.Paul Witt Fire Chief KCFD 40 Renton, Washington
Manufacturers comment: One great advantage of the WaterLanceä x design is the very low collateral damage when used on structure fires. This nozzle fogs so effectively, that fire suppression is very quick with very little water used......Companion Fire Equipment, LLC |
